Since the road had lanes on it, it's important to signal, use your mirror, look over your shoulder, and then go (the "SMOG" - signal, mirror, over the shoulder, go - routine) for each lane you cross. My instructor then told me to take a left at the stoplight. For instance, if you're turning right, go into the right-most lane if you're turning left, go into the left-most lane. Also, when you do make your turn, ensure that you ALWAYS go in the lane closest to you. The instructor will be checking for that. Make sure your eye motion is genuine and in each of those directions, as well. Exaggerate your head motions even if you feel weird doing so. Before you do that, make sure you look in both directions at least once - toward the flow of traffic (although there is little to none on your road test) going your way once, then the other way, and then again the other way. Then you'll take another right toward the stoplight intersection. Don't roll through the stop sign even if that's what you, your friends, and parents do in real life. Stop BEHIND the white line and stop completely. Then you'll be asked to make a right out of that spot onto the rest of the course and at the end of the block you'll come to a stop sign. As soon as the front-end is completely in the designated area put the car in park. As your car straightens out, adjust the wheel accordingly so you go in straight. But the left side should take care of itself since you're basically pivoting around the right flag. Look out the left window to make sure you're okay on the other side and to also show the instructor that you're alert, aware, and observant. As soon as the right rear wheel clears the first right flag, turn the wheel as sharp as you can to the right so you pivot the back-end in straight. The key on that maneuver is to guide the right side of the car into the spot first by using the passenger-side mirror. But be sure to stay on your side of the road. Drive up perpendicular to the flags and then turn left a little bit until you can see the flags in your rearview mirrors then put the car in reverse. Then you make a right out of your designated lane (signal every turn!) and perform the 90-degree back-up between two flags spaced nine feet apart.

The first you're required to do is identify how to do certain things - e.g., put on your seatbelt, adjust your seat, adjust your mirrors (very important for parking, do ahead of time), turn on your signal light, hazard lights (double-blinkers), headlights (dim and high-beam), windshield wipers, and emergency brakes. It's a closed course, which I like, since you get to go as slow as you'd like. I had my driving test today in Arden Hills and it went very well actually.

We really don’t have that choice in this case. Here are my impressions of AH (plus free driving tips!): If a business screws up and it affects the customers, they will go somewhere else.

For some reason, people tend to hold government to a higher standard than corporations and our generally unaware of the many screw ups that occur in the private sector. The Peter Principle is real being both humorous and sad to observe. However, after working in both corporations (five) and small businesses (2), I can assure you businesses can be poorly run but still profitable. Many of those same people laud the private sector. Minnesota government usually scores well compared to other states on scores about government efficiency.

I think we are generally well run but not perfect (see DMV computer SNAFU). A friend just took his daughter to Alexandria for her test.Īnd there are some people that think government in Minnesota is poorly run. People in Minnesota like to think that our state government is well run but I hear of more and more people having to go outstate for their road test because the DVS stations in the Cities are booked up months in advance.
